Interdisciplinary perspectives on the changing space domain.
ASTRA Bonn brings together students across strategy, politics, law, economics, philosophy and STEM to analyse space developments and their broader strategic, political, technological and societal implications.
What is ASTRA Bonn?
We are a student-led initiative at the University of Bonn dedicated to the study of outer space as an increasingly strategic, political and technological domain.
We believe that understanding developments in space today requires more than technical expertise alone. Space is becoming ever more intertwined with questions of security, governance, infrastructure, economics, law and society. ASTRA creates a place where these perspectives can be brought together and discussed in a broader analytical context.

What we do
Events and lectures
We organise talks, discussions and lecture-style events on current developments in space policy, strategy, security and technology.
Research and analysis
We aim to foster informed debate and structured analysis on the political, strategic and societal implications of space developments.
Interdisciplinary exchange
ASTRA connects students from different disciplines who share an interest in space and want to better understand its growing relevance.
Why ASTRA Bonn?
Space is no longer a niche topic. It increasingly shapes questions of security, infrastructure, economic competition, governance and technological change.
ASTRA was founded on the observation that these developments are becoming more complex and more interconnected. A broader and more strategic understanding of space therefore requires interdisciplinary dialogue across academic and professional boundaries.

“Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the more often and steadily we reflect upon them: the starry heavens above me and the moral law within me.”
― Immanuel Kant, Critique of Practical Reason
